Run MULTI A series of tricks in a sequence.
Sad plant SNB A term used to describe any handplant where the front leg is boned for style.
Sandwich construction SNB Layers of materials, on top of each other, with additional components for sidewall strength and torisional flex patterning. Used to construct a board with different layers of materials on top of each other.
Saran Wrap MTX Rider passes one foot between his hands and back to the peg, removing one hand from the bars to let it pass through.
Sato flip SNB Halfpipe trick done by Rob Kingwill (Sato - Japanese for "sugar" ). Kind of like a frontside McTwist. Rider drops in fast, riders up the transition as if doing frontside 540, pops in the air and grabs frontside, then throws head, shoulders, and hips downs
Seabelt SNB The frontside reaches across the body and grabs the tail while the front leg is boned.
S-bend ETC A rider performs an Air raley while rotating his body 360 degrees while inverted.
Session MULTI A period of skating.
Shifty SNB A grabless trick where the upper torso and lower body are twisted in opposite directions and then returned to normal.
Shove it SKT A trick performed by spinning the board beneath the feet.
Shovel SKT The front of the board that rises up off the snow. Design is usually a result of boards intended use, powder boards have lots of shovel, race boards have very little.
Shovel ETC Area near the tip of the ski.
Shovel SNB The lifted or upward curved sections of a snowboard at the tip and tail.
Side cut SNB The curve built into the sidewalls and edges of a board to enhance turning characteristics. To create a curve on the turning surface that is characteristic of the boards riding style.
Side wall SNB The area between the topsheet and the base, and above the edges on a snowboard. Holds the core and other materials from shifting during the manufacturing process, and to protect them as a finished product.
Sidewall ETC Refers to the side of the ski.
Sintered base SNB A form of polymer plastic that is compress into a long shape, set on a roller and sliced into sheets of base material. A slightly harder more porous from of base material used on performance snowboards.
Slalom MULTI A form of Alpine racing in which the racer must run a course designated by a series of gates set in various combination as to test technique, speed, and agility. Failure to pass through the gate properly results in disqualification.
Slick SKT A board that has a layer of slippery plastic bonded to the bottom for extra slide/strength. They are usually heavier than plain wood boards. Most serious skaters prefer wood.
Slob air SNB The frontside air where the front hand grabs mute, the back leg is boned and the board is kept parallel with the ground.
Smith grind SKT A type of grind trick where the back truck is grinding, while the rail of the board is also grinding the lip of the ramp or obstacle. Frontside Smith Grind: the toe-side edge is involved; Backside Smith Grind: the heel-side edge is involved.
Soul grind INL A grind where the leading skate is parallel with the rail or obstacle and the rear skate is perpendicular to it.
Spaghetti air SNB The front hand reaches between the legs and behind the front legs to grab the toe edge in front of the front foot while the back leg is boned.
Spine ramp MULTI Two half pipes placed back to back creating a double U shape.
Stain SKT Normal deck without a slick bottom.
Stale INL Any trick in which the skater reaches behind his body to grab the wheels or frame.
Stale egg SNB An eggplant with a stalefish grab.
Stalefish air SKT The frontside trick where the rear hand grabs the heel edge behind the rear between the bindings while the front leg is boned.
Stalemasky air SNB When a maneuver is performed such that the point of emphasis in the maneuver is held or "stalled" for an extended period of time.
Stall INL To land on a lip and stop for a second and then re-enter.
Stall BMX When a rider pauses briefly on the coping before dropping back into the ramp.
Stance SNB The position of one's feet on the ground.
Stiffy air SNB Any maneuver in which both legs are boned and a grab is incorporated.
Stinky SNB Riding with the legs spread open.
Street BMX An event consisting of different types and styles of ramps positioined so that they can be approached in many different ways. Competitors plan out their runs through these ramps according to individual style.
Street boards SKT Shorter and narrower than ramp boards. Usually has a shorter wheelbase than a ramp board.
Sub Box BMX Street course jump consisting of two ramps, one on either side of a platform that is topped by an approximately 3-foot high box, with a 2-foot deck on top. The height and small surface of the box make it easy for a rider to clip a back wheel.
Sublimated top sheet SNB Topsheets that have had the graphics added through the sublimation process. Provides very durable graphics because they are cooked right into the plastic.
Super g ETC A faster more open version of the giant slalom, kind of a cross between GS and downhill.
Superman BMX Where a rider takes both feet off the pedals in the air and stretches his legs as far behind the bike as possible. Looks like Superman flying holding on the handlebars, hence the name.
Superman MTX Rider releases both legs from pegs and throws his legs back, elevating himself over the bike.
Swing weight SKT The distribution of weight from the tip and tail to the center of the board. To balance a board and control its ability to initiate rotation or to stop rotation in relationship to its overall weight.
Swiss cheese air SNB The rear hand reaches between the legs and grabs the heel edge in front of the front foot while the back left is boned.
Switch stance SKT When the feet are placed in the opposite of the normal stance and you are going forward with a slightly different balance point than in your normal stance. Not the same as fakie where you ride backwards with your normal balance and stance.
Switch take off SNB Going into a jump backwards.
Symmetrical design SNB When all the design components of the side cut and shape are parallel in design. The opposite of Asymmetrical. To position a rider on a board when less angulation or opposing angulation is necessary.
Table Top BMX When a rider flattens his bike out into the horizontal plane in the air, then straightens it back out to land.
Tabletop MULTI Type of jump - with a ramp going up, flat on top, and a landing ramp on the far side.
Tail MULTI The rear tip of the board or ski.
Tail bonk SNB To hit an object with the tail of the snowboard.
Tail grab SNB The rear hand grabs the tail of the snowboard.
Tail poke SNB Any maneuver where you bone your rear leg and "poke" the tail of the snowboard in a direction away from your body usually while grabbing.
