J?burg was yet a Savage Garden
Australian duo Pop band ?Savage Garden? had their audience, mostly young, ecstatic and female, swaying to the music with raised candles at the MTN Sundome Arena in Johannesburg last night. Even KW Eku Mandela, the grandson of the former president, found the show ?bloody amazing?. Opening band for the Savages was Granny Smith.
Singer/songwriter Darren Hayes one of the presenters from the recent MTV music awards and tunesmith/instrumentalist Daniel Jones gave a stunning performance with their intelligent lyrics, gloriously accessible melodies and colourful backdrops with spectacular lighting.
There was a definite vibe across the arena floor when an amazing 14 000-odd people pitched to what this performance. The Savages illustrated to the crowd why their second album ?Affirmation? was a hit at the closing ceremony of the Sydney Olympics. Through worldwide sales of 11 million since their 1997 debut, the gardens have conjured a new definition to the pop culture.
The bands change of set brought on a different atmosphere to the audience when they took off the drums and wheeled in a grand piano to which Daniel sang ?The Animal Song? as well as ?Hold me? which got the average couple a little closer together.
Playing songs from there hit singles: ?I Want You?, ?Truly Madly? caused one crowd to wave a banner that read Take this ?To the Moon and Back? which was another one of there singles that this band in famous for.
There last song ?Affirmation? almost brought the roof down with a mass choir of un-broken voices echoed from the ceiling.
There next concert which would have been cancelled but due to popular demand will be held at the ABSA Stadium in Durban on the 15 December. They will also perform at the Big Arena in Cape Town on the 17th December.
